Strawberry Shortcuts.

Ever since I was a young child, I have always been astounded by strawberries. How could something to delicious actually be good for you? To me, they are perfect; the colour, the fine detail of the seed on the skin, the pure satisfaction of biting into a super-sweet and juicy one. And I definitely don’t think I am alone in these thoughts. It’s safe to say that strawberry flavoured anything often tends to be a popular crowd-pleaser.

And of course they are healthy for you. Exceptionally so, thanks to their antioxidant properties, extremely high levels of vitamin C, and assortment of other vitamins and minerals, all neatly packaged into a little bundle of fibre. But I would be wasting your time if I were to talk only about the health benefits – their real superpowers lie within their gastronomical capacities. And yet you barely even have to do anything to them (except maybe wash them) to enjoy them to their fullest extent.

It would be pointless to try to convince you to eat more strawberries, because these berries have done the convincing themselves. But maybe you’re a bit like me and when strawberries are in season, you buy at least 10 times more than you could ever consume in a timely manner. So then you need to find other ways to get those strawberries in before their number is up. That’s where a few smart flavour pairings and recipes come in. Just when you thought strawberries couldn’t get any better, I come in and throw a bunch of unbeatable flavours to partner with strawberries at you. Sorry about that, but I promise these recipes will make it up to you.

Strawberry and Basil

What? Basil? You mean the Italian staple that turns the cheese pizza into a margarita? Yeh, you heard me right; basil.

Strawberry and Chocolate

There’s nothing more romantic than this lovely duo, but let’s branch out of the classic chocolate-dipped-strawberry for once. It’s time to take the choc-strawb combo to the next level.

Strawberries and Cream

Because a game of summer tennis is incomplete without this perfect match. Or is it? I don’t know, I don’t play tennis. Strawberries are just the perfect vehicle to be able to eat lots of cream without the judgement.

Strawberry and Cucumber

Tomatoes are over-rated. Let’s join together and replace them with strawberries. You’re Mexican salsas and salads will thank you for it.
